Mike DeLeeuw Leads Thunder Past Sugar Kings

Mike DeLeeuw collected three hits in four at bats, as Thunder defeated Sugar Kings 13-0 on Sunday at Santaluces Community High School. DeLeeuw hit a home run to left field in the first inning, doubled in the second inning, and singled in the fourth inning.
Thunder got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after DeLeeuw homered to left field, scoring three runs, Greg Nicholson grounded out, scoring one run, Franklin Garcia singled, scoring one run, and Michael Jordan singled, scoring one run.
Thunder extended their early lead with four runs in the bottom of the second thanks to RBI singles by Nicholson, Jack Palma, Matt Ziemak, and Jordan.
Luis Manuel La Rosa stepped on the mound first for Sugar Kings. The starter surrendered four hits and six runs over one-third of an inning, striking out none and walking two. Kody Gardere and Erick Abreu each came on in relief for Thunder and shutdown Sugar Kings.
Thunder piled up 16 hits in the game. Jordan, Palma, Garcia, Kelsey Launi, and Nicholson each collected multiple hits for Thunder. Thunder turned one double play in the game.
Abdel Oliva went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Sugar Kings in hits.

Mike DeLeeuw's Strong Eye Leads Thunder Past Palm Beach Mets

Mike DeLeeuw showed a strong eye at the plate on Sunday, as DeLeeuw walked three times while leading Thunder to a 16-4 victory over Palm Beach Mets.
Thunder jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Joey Hennessey grounded out, scoring one run, an error scored one run, an error scored one run, and Matt Ziemak singled, scoring two runs.
Thunder added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after DeLeeuw walked, and Tyler Ziemak singled to center field, each scoring one run.
Kody Gardere pitched three innings in relief for Thunder. The pitcher allowed two hits and two runs while, striking out two and walking one. Joe Ferro led things off on the bump for Thunder. The starting pitcher gave up zero hits and zero runs over one inning, striking out one and walking none.
Randy Acosta led things off on the bump for Palm Beach Mets. The starting pitcher allowed six hits and seven runs (two earned) over two innings, striking out none and walking four.
Thunder tallied 15 hits in the game. Ziemak led Thunder with two runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. Ziemak went 4-for-4 on the day. Ferro, Kelsey Launi, and Alex Recio each collected multiple hits for Thunder. DeLeeuw led Thunder with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing 12 walks for the game.
DeLeeuw stole three bases. Thunder stole five bases in the game. Thunder turned one double play in the game. Thunder were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Ziemak had the most chances in the field with five.
Palm Beach Mets's Jason Tooker, the number seven hitter, led Palm Beach Mets with two hits in three at bats. Brayan Masias and Freddy Valecillos each drove in one run for Palm Beach Mets. Palm Beach Mets turned two double plays in the game.

THUNDER STAR OF THE GAME: Matt Ziemak went 4-4 with 2 RBI's

In a rematch of the spring championship game, the Marlins got revenge with a 6-2 win over the Thunder, as the Marlins staff struck out fourteen batters to keep the Thunder offense in check.
Joe Ferro led the Thunder with two singles, Joey Hennessey and Guy Bitchatcho each clobbered doubles, and Alejandro DeArazoza, Greg Nicholson, Franklin Garcia, and Kelsey Launi each singled.
The Marlins sank the Thunder by scoring all six of their runs in the fourth inning. Joe Ferro tossed a scoreless first inning, Kody Gardere followed with a scoreless second and third inning, but the wheels fell off in the fourth, as the Marlins led off the inning with a single, a double, three wild pitches, then a walk before Gardere was replaced with Sammy Camacho. Camacho struck out the first batter he faced, gave up a single, then an inning ending double-play ground ball was misplayed and the flood gates opened further with three more singles, giving the Marlins a 6-1 lead that they would not relinquish.
THUNDER STAR OF THE GAME: Joe Ferro - 2 for 3 (two singles), one shutout inning on the mound

The Thunder opened its 44th season Sunday with a win over the Mariners in an afternoon game at the Santaluces Sports Complex.
Knocking off rust after winning the spring season championship, the team banged out eleven hits and run-ruled the Mariners 12-0 after five innings.
Rookie Alex Recio and veteran Greg Nicholson each singled twice to lead the attack. Recio scored twice and swiped a bag, and Nicholson scored three times and drove in two runs. Kelsey Launi ripped a double that scored two, and Joey Hennessey, Byron Murray, Mike DeLeeuw, Franklin Garcia (2 RBI), and Jack Palma each singled.
Jack Palma earned his first win of the season by tossing the first four innings, as he struck out five while allowing one hit. Kody Gardere struck out one and allowed a hit in his only inning of action before the game was called due to the league's run rule.
