Thunder Defeat Beach Bums On Multiple Hit Performance By Greg Nicholson

Greg Nicholson collected three hits in five at bats, as Thunder defeated Beach Bums 6-1 on Sunday at West Boynton Park and Recreation Center. Nicholson singled in the second inning, doubled in the fourth inning, and singled in the first inning.


Thunder got on the board in the top of the first inning after Nicholson singled to center field, and Franklin Garcia grounded out, each scoring one run.


Thunder added two runs in the second after Nicholson singled down the left field line on the sixth pitch of the at-bat.


A double by Tyler Ziemak extended the Thunder lead to 5-0 in the top of the third inning.


Jack Palma earned the win for Thunder. The starter gave up three hits and one run over seven and two-thirds innings, striking out nine and walking seven. Eric Sabido took the loss for Beach Bums. The starting pitcher went three innings, surrendering six runs on seven hits, striking out four and walking two. Kody Gardere pitched one and one-third innings of scoreless ball for Thunder in relief. The righty surrendered zero hits, striking out two and walking one.


Thunder accumulated 12 hits in the game. Nicholson and Ziemak each collected three hits for Thunder. Garcia and Kelsey Launi each collected multiple hits for Thunder. Launi and Cleveland Westbrook, Jr each stole multiple bases for Thunder. Thunder stole six bases in the game.


Xavier Bruno, Frank Cruz, and James Smibert each collected one hit for Beach Bums. Sabido paced Beach Bums with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating eight walks for the game. Jan Sanchez stole two bases. Beach Bums ran wild on the base paths, amassing five stolen bases for the game. Beach Bums turned one double play in the game.

Ricky Marinez’s Big Day Propels Thunder Past Palm Beach Diamondbacks

Ricky  Marinez collected three hits in three at bats, as Thunder defeated Palm  Beach Diamondbacks 12-4 on Sunday at Dyer Park. Marinez singled in the  sixth inning, singled in the second inning, and doubled in the fourth  inning.


Thunder  got on the board in the top of the first inning after Liam Fox induced  Kelsey Launi to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, and  Mike DeLeeuw doubled, scoring two runs.


Thunder  scored five runs on four hits in the top of the second inning.  Cleveland Westbrook, Jr singled, scoring one run, Marinez singled,  scoring one run, Launi hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and David  Hansen tripled, scoring two runs.


Westbrook,  Jr earned the win for Thunder. The reliever surrendered zero hits and  two runs (zero earned) over two innings, striking out none and walking  three. Fox took the loss for Palm Beach Diamondbacks. The starter went  two innings, allowing eight runs (four earned) on seven hits, striking  out two and walking two. Kody Gardere started on the hill for Thunder.  The starter gave up four hits and one run over three innings, striking  out five and walking one. Jack Palma threw one inning of zero-run ball  for Thunder in relief. The hurler surrendered zero hits, striking out  two and walking one.


Thunder  collected 12 hits in the game. Joe Ferro and Westbrook, Jr each  collected multiple hits for Thunder. Marinez led Thunder with two walks.  Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying eight walks  for the game. Westbrook, Jr stole two bases. Thunder turned two double  plays in the game.


Chris  Capeletti and Mitchell Donahue each collected two hits for Palm Beach  Diamondbacks. Capeletti and Kyle Ventry each drove in one run for Palm  Beach Diamondbacks. Palm Beach Diamondbacks turned two double plays in  the game.

Thunder Defeat Palm Beach Heat On Multiple Hit Performance By Cleveland Westbrook

Cleveland  Westbrook, Jr collected three hits in four at bats, as Thunder defeated  Palm Beach Heat 5-2 on Sunday at Seminole Palms Park. Westbrook, Jr  singled in the seventh inning, singled in the first inning, and singled  in the fifth inning.


Palm Beach Heat got on the board in the first inning after an error scored one run.

Thunder  jumped into the lead in the bottom of the first when Mike DeLeeuw  singled, scoring two runs, and Ezequiel Romero induced Alex Recio to hit  into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.


Luke  Ohara earned the win for Thunder. The hurler allowed one hit and zero  runs over two innings, striking out two and walking none. Romero took  the loss for Palm Beach Heat. The pitcher went seven innings, giving up  five runs (four earned) on 10 hits, striking out two and walking two.  Kody Gardere started on the mound for Thunder. The starter gave up two  hits and one run (zero earned) over four innings, striking out three and  walking none. Joe Ferro collected the save.


Thunder  accumulated 10 hits in the game. DeLeeuw drove the middle of the  lineup, leading Thunder with three runs batted in. The number three  hitter went 1-for-2 on the day. Matt Ziemak collected two hits for  Thunder in three at bats. Ferro and Westbrook, Jr each stole multiple  bases for Thunder. Thunder stole six bases in the game. Thunder turned  one double play in the game.


Leadoff  hitter Michael Illsley led Palm Beach Heat with two hits in four at  bats. Stephen Skeen and Romero were tough to handle back-to-back in the  lineup, as each drove in one run for Palm Beach Heat. Illsley stole two  bases. Palm Beach Heat turned two double plays in the game.

Thunder Come Up Short Against Barnstormers

Thunder fell to Barnstormers 10-6 on Sunday at Santaluces Community High School.

Barnstormers  got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Jonathan  Rivera singled down the left field line, Mac Matthews singled down the  left field line, and Seth Acton grounded out, each scoring one run.


Thunder  tied the game in the top of the third thanks to a single by Joey  Hennessey, a walk by Mike DeLeeuw, and a walk by Kelsey Launi.


In  the bottom of the fourth, Barnstormers broke up the tie when M Suero  singled, scoring one run. Then a double by Ricky Laidler followed to  extend the lead to 6-3.


Paul  Chasse earned the win for Barnstormers. The pitcher surrendered six  hits and three runs (one earned) over five and one-third innings,  striking out three and walking two. Jack Palma took the loss for  Thunder. The starting pitcher went four innings, allowing six runs on  six hits, striking out one and walking three. Javier Lugo stepped on the  mound first for Barnstormers. The starter gave up one hit and three  runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking five.


Hennessey  and DeLeeuw each collected two hits for Thunder. Hennessey, Launi,  DeLeeuw, and Tyler Ziemak each drove in one run for Thunder. Launi paced  Thunder with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate,  amassing seven walks for the game.


Barnstormers  piled up 12 hits in the game. Suero, Barnstormers's number eight  hitter, led the team with three hits in four at-bats. Ulises Hernandez,  Laidler, and Suero each drove in two runs for Barnstormers. Matthews and  Tyler Bauman each collected multiple hits for Barnstormers.  Barnstormers stole four bases in the game.

Thunder Stifle Aliens In Shutout

Thunder  defeated Aliens 9-0 on Sunday at West Boynton Park and Recreation  Center as three pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Erick Abreu, Luke  Kelley, and Jeff Tomlinson each pitched for Thunder in the game. Abreu  struck out #99 to get the last out.


Thunder  scored five runs in the first inning on the way to victory.  Mike  DeLeeuw doubled, scoring two runs, Kelsey Launi singled, scoring one  run, Tyler Ziemak drew a walk, scoring one run, and Eric Gormley drew a  walk, scoring one run.


Thunder added one run in the second after Abreu singled to right field.


Kelley  earned the win for Thunder. The pitcher surrendered five hits and zero  runs over four innings, striking out five and walking none. Anibal  Mendez took the loss for Aliens. The righty went one-third of an inning,  surrendering five runs on three hits, striking out none and walking  three. Tomlinson opened the game for Thunder. The starting pitcher gave  up two hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out four and  walking none. Abreu pitched one inning of zero-run ball for Thunder in  relief. The hurler surrendered zero hits, striking out two and walking  none.


Thunder  accumulated 12 hits in the game. DeLeeuw drove the middle of the  lineup, leading Thunder with two runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went  1-for-2 on the day. Alex Recio and Launi each collected two hits for  Thunder. Joey Hennessey stole two bases. Thunder worked the count all  day, amassing eight walks. Thunder didn't commit a single error in the  field. Franklin Garcia had the most chances in the field with eight.


Rafael Cantillo went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Aliens in hits. Aliens turned two double plays in the game.

Mike DeLeeuw Leads Thunder Past Sugar Kings

Mike  DeLeeuw collected three hits in four at bats, as Thunder defeated Sugar  Kings 13-0 on Sunday at Santaluces Community High School. DeLeeuw hit a  home run to left field in the first inning, doubled in the second  inning, and singled in the fourth inning.


Thunder  got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after DeLeeuw  homered to left field, scoring three runs, Greg Nicholson grounded out,  scoring one run, Franklin Garcia singled, scoring one run, and Michael  Jordan singled, scoring one run.


Thunder  extended their early lead with four runs in the bottom of the second  thanks to RBI singles by Nicholson, Jack Palma, Matt Ziemak, and Jordan.


Luis  Manuel La Rosa stepped on the mound first for Sugar Kings. The starter  surrendered four hits and six runs over one-third of an inning, striking  out none and walking two. Kody Gardere and Erick Abreu each came on in  relief for Thunder and shutdown Sugar Kings.


Thunder  piled up 16 hits in the game. Jordan, Palma, Garcia, Kelsey Launi, and  Nicholson each collected multiple hits for Thunder. Thunder turned one  double play in the game.


Abdel Oliva went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Sugar Kings in hits.

Mike DeLeeuw's Strong Eye Leads Thunder Past Palm Beach Mets

Mike  DeLeeuw showed a strong eye at the plate on Sunday, as DeLeeuw walked  three times while leading Thunder to a 16-4 victory over Palm Beach  Mets.


Thunder  jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Joey  Hennessey grounded out, scoring one run, an error scored one run, an  error scored one run, and Matt Ziemak singled, scoring two runs.


Thunder  added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after DeLeeuw  walked, and Tyler Ziemak singled to center field, each scoring one run.


Kody  Gardere pitched three innings in relief for Thunder. The pitcher  allowed two hits and two runs while, striking out two and walking one.  Joe Ferro led things off on the bump for Thunder. The starting pitcher  gave up zero hits and zero runs over one inning, striking out one and  walking none. 


Randy Acosta led things off on the bump for Palm Beach  Mets. The starting pitcher allowed six hits and seven runs (two earned)  over two innings, striking out none and walking four.


Thunder  tallied 15 hits in the game. Ziemak led Thunder with two runs batted in  from the number nine spot in the lineup. Ziemak went 4-for-4 on the  day. Ferro, Kelsey Launi, and Alex Recio each collected multiple hits  for Thunder. DeLeeuw led Thunder with three walks. Overall, the team had  a strong eye at the plate, amassing 12 walks for the game. 


DeLeeuw  stole three bases. Thunder stole five bases in the game. Thunder turned  one double play in the game. Thunder were sure-handed in the field and  didn't commit a single error. Ziemak had the most chances in the field  with five.


Palm  Beach Mets's Jason Tooker, the number seven hitter, led Palm Beach Mets  with two hits in three at bats. Brayan Masias and Freddy Valecillos  each drove in one run for Palm Beach Mets. Palm Beach Mets turned two  double plays in the game.

THUNDER STAR OF THE GAME:  Matt Ziemak went 4-4 with 2 RBI's

In a rematch of the spring championship game, the Marlins got revenge with a 6-2 win over the Thunder, as the Marlins staff struck out fourteen batters to keep the Thunder offense in check. 


Joe Ferro led the Thunder with two singles, Joey Hennessey and Guy Bitchatcho each clobbered doubles, and Alejandro DeArazoza, Greg Nicholson, Franklin Garcia, and Kelsey Launi each singled. 


The Marlins sank the Thunder by scoring all six of their runs in the fourth inning. Joe Ferro tossed a scoreless first inning, Kody Gardere followed with a scoreless second and third inning, but the wheels fell off in the fourth, as the Marlins led off the inning with a single, a double, three wild pitches, then a walk before Gardere was replaced with Sammy Camacho. Camacho struck out the first batter he faced, gave up a single, then an inning ending double-play ground ball was misplayed and the flood gates opened further with three more singles, giving the Marlins a 6-1 lead that they would not relinquish.

The Thunder opened its 44th season Sunday with a win over the Mariners in an afternoon game at the Santaluces Sports Complex. 


Knocking off rust after winning the spring season championship, the team banged out eleven hits and run-ruled the Mariners 12-0 after five innings. 


Rookie Alex Recio and veteran Greg Nicholson each singled twice to lead the attack. Recio scored twice and swiped a bag, and Nicholson scored three times and drove in two runs. Kelsey Launi ripped a double that scored two, and Joey Hennessey, Byron Murray, Mike DeLeeuw, Franklin Garcia (2 RBI), and Jack Palma each singled. 


Jack Palma earned his first win of the season by tossing the first four innings, as he struck out five while allowing one hit. Kody Gardere struck out one and allowed a hit in his only inning of action before the game was called due to the league's run rule.
